Snow Bees 2

Just been down to the hive, it looks very different to last weekend!

As last nights snow fall was light but persistent the snow had accumulated on top of the mesh above the hive rather than the hive roof. This is amazing as the holes in the mesh are 2.5 by 4cm!

  1. Hope the bees aren't feeling the cold! Do people cover hives in fleece, like you would a plant, or do the hives keep warm as they are?

Some beekeepers put insulating material above the hive but under the lid but Martin doesnt think this is necessary, the bees are certainly capable of creating their own heat by vibrating their wings. There might also be a problem with condensation, which is more dangerous for bees than the cold
