Winter Prep 24 October

Example of a mouse guard in situ
Preparation for winter is now complete. Joseph turned the frames the 'warm way' a couple of weeks ago which minimises drafts (90 degrees from normal). last week I put the badger proof strap on and today I installed the mouse guard to prevent mice nesting in the nice warm hive and destroying comb. I also put the woodpecker proof mesh over too. None of the latter is absolutely necessary but at least its done now while the weather is relatively warm. Ill do visual checks every couple of weeks over the winter to make sure the entrance isn't blocked by dead bees (old age!!)
Fingers crossed that they make it!
