A quick update on bee news since they were installed last Wednesday.
We had reports that later on Wednesday evening magpies had been spotted lining up along the railings picking the bees off of the hive landing board. Although we expect that they were targeting bees dazed after their journey, we put up some netting to deter them. It seems to have done the trick.
We also gave them some syrup to help them while they build energy draining wax comb. Once established a little more we'll stop so it does not affect any honey they produce this year.
If you come up to the School of Education you can see our girls working hard gathering nectar and pollen from the shrubs along the stairs to the Terrace.
