At least that's what I thought. I looked at them from the window yesterday morning, lots of them were flying, in mid December!
Today after last nights winds, I decided I would turn the hive 90 degrees so that the entrance isn't face onto open space. They were not best pleased to be disturbed, luckily I had suited up, but I did get an idea why they were still flying. It was really quite warm on the terrace and when I checked the bee candy they had eaten the whole lot, perhaps because they are using energy flying? I put some more on but judging by the weight of the hive they haven't touched their stores yet, perhaps as they are still taking constitutionals they are not in winter mode? Any thoughts?
