Woodpecker Proofing 22/12/11

All is quiet now in the hive. We put the woodpecker proofing on this morning. Bruce, Denn and I struggled with a wibbly wobbly (Dr Who reference) mass of chicken wire but managed to install it over the hive without disturbing a single bee. You can see in the picture a few dead bees on the plinth. This is to be expected and more visable than it would normally be as the hive isn't standing on grass. there were no dead bodies on the hive floor so the bees have been housekeeping and moving the bodies outside, sounds gruesome but hygienic.

I will be doing a visual check in January and checking the bee candy if anyone would like to come?

  1. I just want to say a big thank you for all you hard work over the year Tina. It is so fantastic we have our own hives and this blog is extremely interesting. Keeps me in the loop as it is not often I can get up to Kingston Hill!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas. Honey-glazed hams all round!

    Best wishes,

    Elise
